United Ways of New England

UWONE history

UWONE is an area-wide fund-raising organization of local United Ways primarily in eastern and mid-Atlantic states, offering one-stop shopping for large companies with multiple sites.

Started in 1984, UWONE serves the needs of the corporate customer while representing the United Way system. Now one organization can represent the work/live patterns of employees in the area. Understanding that many donors want to give where they live, UWONE gives these individuals a way to do just that.

UWONE offers companies with multiple sites and their employees these advantages:

  • Distribution of corporate and employee gifts to local United Ways at low cost
  • Streamlined campaigning at multiple sites
  • Corporate-wide pledge processing of gifts
  • Analyses of giving patterns throughout the company
  • Fundraising analysis by work site
  • Coordination of programs (i.e. volunteer projects, on-site education/solicitation)
  • Timely monthly payment of pledges (all funds collected through UWONE are distributed within 30 days of receipt to partner United Ways)
  • Donor Choice program which allows employees the opportunity to impact their hometown and its local agencies

Local United Ways, as part of UWONE, support the campaign effort by participating in worksite education and solicitation. These programs allow the employees to better understand the needs in their local communities and to grasp the many ways their dollars are making a real impact on community members. Local United Ways are involved in the entire campaign process and offer increased customer service to the corporation and its worksite.

This UWONE structure has existed cohesively for 18 years because of its balance and team approach. It is a seamless, efficient and cost effective way to raise and distribute both employee and corporate contributions.

As the workplace continues to change and employers find their staffs scattered, UWONE will continue to best meet the needs of the corporate customer.
